V6 World Congress to be held on Feb 2012

The Internet continues to grow beyond the capabilities of IPv4.  An expansion in the address space is clearly required. With its increase in the number of available prefixes and addresses in a subnet, and improvements in address management, IPv6 is the only real option on the table. Yet, IPv6 deployment requires some effort, resources, and expertise.

The World IPv6 Day on June 8 2011 where key content providers turned on IPv6 access on their "front door" was not about turning off IPv4, but about unifying Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies - to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out throughout the world.

Upperside Conferences organized the first V6 conference in Feb. 2011 in Paris, which pre-dated the World IPV6 Day and will continue with the 2nd edition in Feb. 2012. The event provides an opportunity to gather representatives from different sectors (industry, research, government, and finance) to lay the groundwork for large-scale IPV6 co-operation and collaboration by promoting IPV6 adoption through state-of-the-art highly technical presentations from enterprises and content providers reports.

For Internet service operators, content providers and other entities that rely on Internet numbering allocations, it will become increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain new IPv4 address space to foster their networks. The cost and complexity associated with keeping track of and managing remaining IPv4 address space efficiently will also increase. Therefore, network operators and enterprises will need to implement IPv6 in order to ensure long-term network growth and global connectivity.

Cisco, Huawei, HP Juniper are all fully-implicated Partners and Sponsoring this important conference on the evolution of this technology and what it means for the different key players involved. IPV6 Forum in their advisory role and Broadband Forum, Association G6, Swiss IPV6Council all endorse this event which is breaking ground by bringing together the main actors not only to discuss but also to ask the right questions NOW, in order to facilitate an eventual smooth transition later on.
