Facebook, the online social network that accounts to have around 400 million people on it from across the globe turned six last week. With the sixth anniversary, the website received a facelift with changes to its homepage and a new look and feel to it.
One of the fastest growing social networks online today, the website had less than half the people today on it registered as users a year ago. This marks a breakthrough achievement for Facebook to register more than 200 million users in a period of just one year.
“Facebook began six years ago today as a product that my roommates and I built to help people around us connect easily, share information and understand one another better. We hoped Facebook would improve people's lives in important ways. So it's rewarding to see that as Facebook has grown, people around the world are using the service to share information about events big and small and to stay connected to everyone they care about.,” writes Facebook Chief and Founder, Mark Zuckerberg in a blog post at Facebook.
With the changes made to Facebook, the users will now be able to easily access their applications and games, as well as a list of friends who are currently online. The news feed of the website is now divided into categories for "top news" and "most recent" posts from Facebook friends.
The website has also introduced a new feature for faster and easier upload of pictures as well as a new navigation module. The array of new features will be rolling out in the next few weeks for the users. For Facebook this is promotion of a ‘simplified design’ for its users. |
