The biggest night for Bangla music and Bangla music fraternity

Mumbai, August 16, 2010: The night of IDEA BIG BANGLA MUSIC AWARDS 2010 was the most awaited night of the month as the entire Bangla Music fraternity stepped into Science City Auditorium, Kolkata to celebrate Bangla Music and honour its torchbearers on Friday, 13th August.

Bengal has been the birthplace of some great music and musical legends down the ages. Bangla Music offers various flavors in the form of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Lokgeeti, Bangla Rock and of course Bangla Film Music to name just a few. Recognizing the need to celebrate and acknowledge this enormous talent, Reliance Broadcast Network’s radio arm 92.7 BIG FM and Idea Cellular, the pan India mobile operator presented ‘IDEA BIG BANGLA MUSIC AWARDS 2010’in association with Mashal. The property, conceptualized and marketed by BIG Live (the experiential marketing arm of Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd), saw all its media verticals coming into play thereby ensuring this music award permeates into consumers’ lives through multiple touch points.

The grand finale was a glorious journey of Bangla music down the ages. The evening was divided into four phases, viz. SUR'ER AAKASHEY, SUR'ER EI JHORNA, ONYO GAAN'ER BHOREY and DHAK'ER TAALEY and witnessed some memorable performances from the likes of Usha Uthup who sang RD Burman’s compositions for her, Rupankar, Antara Choudhury, Raghab, Emon and many more.

The audience comprised notable personalities from the music and entertainment industry like Nirmala Mishra, Debojyoti Mishra, Arun Bhaduri, Chiranjeet, Nandan Bagchi, Sreelekha Mitra, Agnimitra Paul to name a few.

The awards acknowledged the outstanding work done in the field of Bangla music in the year 2009 in various categories cutting across Film and Non Film genres.

The Winners in the five popular choice categories were: Goutam Sushmit (BIG Bangla Lyricist of the Year), Kaya (BIG Bangla Rock/Pop Song of the Year), Shreya Ghoshal (BIG Bangla Singer of the Year - Female), Abhijeet (BIG Bangla Singer of the Year - Male) and Shantanu Moitra (Idea BIG Bangla Song of the Year). The Jury Awards went to Nilanjana Sarkar (BIG Bangla Debutant of the Year), Kaya & Abhijit Basu (BIG Bangla Title Score of the Year) and Arnab (BIG Rabindra Sangeet Album of the Year).

In Special Awards, singing legend Dwijen Mukhopadhyay was felicitated with the Idea BIG Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution towards Bangla Music. Popular new age composer Jeet Ganguly got the BIG Bangla Music Award-Most significant contribution to Bangla Film Music for the year 09.While young, upcoming singing talent Anwesha got the Idea Most Promising Young Artiste Award.
