Finnish mobile makers Nokia has acquired social travel port start-up Dopplr for somewhere between 10 to 15 million euros if reports by TechCrunch are to be believed.
Amidst intense competition from Apple’s iPhone and Research in Motion’s Blackberry, Nokia has been struggling to keep up with the pace that they have set in the mobile industry.
In an effort to stop the bleeding at the cell phone giant, Nokia has been acquiring a string of smaller companies over a period of time. However, it’s still unclear how Nokia incorporates Dopplr into its strategy.
Dopplr has a fairly small, but hardcore user base and has intense competition from companies like TripIt. If it keeps the service intact at all, Nokia might roll out a mobile version of Dopplr out as an exclusive app on their devices. |
