Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd, the company operating the general entertainment channel Sahara One, has reported net profit of Rs 2.14 crore for the first quarter ended 30 June 2010. This marked huge decline of 73.5% from net profit of Rs 8.10 crore in the first quarter of financial year 2009-2010 (FY10).

The net sales during the quarter accounted to Rs 31.57 crore compared to net sales of Rs 48.5 crore in the quarter previous year.

The expenses incurred for Q1 FY11 were posted at Rs 27.79 crores against expenses of Rs 40.82 crore in Q1 FY10.

Segment wise the television vertical of the Company has reported an operating loss at Rs 85.16 lakh against an operating profit of Rs 7.80 crore in previous year. The motion picture business has posted an operating profit of Rs 6.7 crore increasing from net profit of Rs 2.3 crore in Q1FY10.

 The net income from the television operations is Rs 24.19 crore for the current quarter decreasing from net income of Rs 37.98 crore during the quarter in the previous year. While the net income for motion picture segment stood at Rs 7.38 crore declining from Rs 10.52 crore.

The Television business comprise of GEC Sahara One, FILMY which is a Hindi movie channel and FIRANGI which is a world television channel in Hindi.
