The Government one more time denied any proposal to ban programmes that do not stick to the Programme and Advertisement Codes but if violation is brought to its notice then actions will be taken.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting C M Jatua informed The Parliament that action was brought in a total of 43 cases of violation of the Codes in the years 2008 to 2010. The same action was introduced by the Press Council of India in 26 cases relating to violation of Journalistic Conduct between April 2007 and October 2010 in the print media, and most of the cases were resolved to the satisfaction of both the plaintiff and the offender.

Section under which The press council of India takes action is section (2)(b) of the PCI Act 1978, while the action in case of private TV channels is taken under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act 1995.
