Lenovo India is ready to take on Apple, Samsung and domestic tablet PC vendors with its own IdeapadK1 and Thinkpad tablets.
Chinese computing giant Lenovo, the fourth-largest PC vendor, launched its IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad tablets in India on Tuesday.
These tablets are:
• Based on Google's Android 3.1 platform (which is used for the first time by the company)
• Available in two versions — WiFi only and WiFi+3G models
• Ranged between Rs.14,990 and Rs 46,900 (to attract first time buyers)
• To be made available across 700 Lenovo outlets and large format retail stores by the end of October.
Lenovo aims to target majority consumers who wish to possess personal tablets and has therefore intentionally launched two consumer class and one enterprise class tablet with high value-proposition.
The three different tablet PC models are targeted at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) enterprises and consumer segments. Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India, positions the brand ahead of its competition and believes that just like personal computers, different users have different demands from tablet computers.
Realising the massive potential of market for tablets in India, it has reportedly set up a separate division to develop services and applications for tablets, smartphones and digital home technology.
As part of this global strategy, over the next six months, Lenovo will introduce tablets of varying sizes and platforms, thus aiming to create a range that would cater to individual needs of its customers.
