UFO Moviez plans investment of around Rs 250cr over 3D Screens

With the three-dimensional (3D) viewing back into picture, backed by the recent success of movies like Avatar globally, UFO Moviez looks to give a boost to the digital cinema viewing in 3D across the country.

UFO Movies, leading satellite-based digital cinema network, unleashed its next generation 3D digital cinema solutions. With the launch the Company also revealed its plans to convert around 100 cinema screen across the country to 3D in a phased manner.

3D technology is the being looked upon as the next big thing that would revolutionise the way entertainment through cinema and television experienced. UFO Moviez provided a glimpse of its 3D technology during the popular cricket tournament IPL 2010. It had screened quarter final, semi-final and final matches live in 3D across 70 cinemas.

The Company has set aside around Rs 250 crore as the investment to support the plan. Moving forth with its aim, it believes that it would be able to complete conversion of about 500 screens to 3D by this year-end.

Besides, UFO Moviez is also will also provide the entire solutions to create a 3D ecosystem in the country. The cost of conversion of a single screen to 3D compatible is around Rs. 25 lakh.

During the process of conversion, the company has sought to install two different types of projectors which would depend on the location of the theatres. For a metro, it plans a dual projector and in tier-II city it looks to deploy a single projector.
