Google Inc has already marked its leadership in the internet search world. But now the company is eyeing the search options in the television domain.
As per a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Google is working upon a new service with US-based Dish Network where the viewers will be able to search online shows and videos via their TV sets. WSJ writes that this service will be enabled by the set-top boxes deployed with the TV and will make use of Google’s Android operating system.
The service will be a breakthrough in the television viewing experience. Google, the internet search giant, has been conducting trials and developing this technology over a past year. Currently, the service is being used by a selected few employees of Google, says the WSJ report.
Dish Network Corporation has widespread reach in the US region with around 14 million subscribers to its service.
With the emergence of convergence, companies have been trying to offer a host of services on a single platform. Over the years mobile television, internet television, mobile radio, and few other examples of convergence in medium have been developed. Google’s effort to take its extensive and successful models of search and keyword advertising on the television platform joins the list. |
