Apple Inc, the iPhone firm, finally unveiled its tablet computing device at the Special Press event organised by the company on the Wednesday, 27 January, 2010. Well, as the reports in the international publications suggest that the device, that has been named iPad (not iSlate as speculated), has brought in a few surprises.

iPad is being considered as a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more by Apple.

The iPad has a built that falls between a laptop and smartphone, having a 9.7-inch high-resolution screen featuring 12 next-generation Multi-Touch applications. Half-inch thick, weighing 1.5 pounds and the tablet would be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities. Also, the iPad will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store.

Adding more to this tablet device, the device offers affordability where Apple has fixed the price for iPad starting from $499, increases on the storage capacity. Apple plans to ship iPad in late March.

“iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad creates and defines an entirely new category of devices that will connect users with their apps and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.”

As for the device, as mentioned earlier, it offers comprehensive features. The iPad will feature a new iPad-made version of Apple's iWork productivity suite designed specifically for Multi-Touch; an on-screen keyboard to type text; option to import photos from a Mac, PC or digital camera; watch movies, TV shows and YouTube, all in HD or flip through pages of an e-book you downloaded from Apple’s new iBookstore while listening to your music collection.

Apple’s new iBookstore offers the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile device. The iBookstore will feature books from major and independent publishers. The iPad has been designed in two versions—one with Wi-Fi and the other with both Wi-Fi and 3G thus offering high speeds.

Apple also released a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for iPad, so developers can create amazing new applications designed to take advantage of iPad’s capabilities. The SDK includes a simulator that lets developers test and debug their iPad apps on a Mac, and also lets developers create Universal Applications that run on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
