Facilitating the process of production, Element Technica’s division Technica 3D has developed lightweight 3D camera rigs that are much cheaper in cost in comparison to other 3D rigs available in the market.

Technica has devised its 3D rigs in such a manner that they can be easily configured into both beam splitter and parallel camera platforms. The 3D rigs can be scaled to fit all the popular cameras.

Camera and lens alignment, which has traditionally taken hours, has been reduced to minutes by the deployment of advanced alignment mechanism found in the production version of the Quasar full-sized 3D camera platform.

The Technica 3D rigs have another advanced feature incorporated, i.e. integrated high torque motors and electronics along with wired/wireless remote hand-unit to precisely control convergence (Conv.) and interocular (I.O.).

Technica 3D systems are available in three sizes.

Quasar: Full-Size

  • Designed for full body digital imagers: RED, Sony F23/35 & 1500, D-21, Genesis
  • Rig weight without cameras: 36.6lbs. [16.6 kilos]
  • Isolated mirror box provides exceptional rigidity and precise alignment
  • Integrated motors and electronics for I.O. and Conv. control
  • Wired/wireless remote hand unit for I.O. and Conv. control

Pulsar: Mid-Size

  • Designed for sensor block cameras: SI-2K , Sony 1500 T-Block, Scarlet, Epic
  • Rig weight without cameras: 19lbs. [8.6 kilos] estimated
  • Isolated mirror box provides exceptional rigidity and precise alignment
  • Integrated motors and electronics for I.O. and Conv. control
  • Wired/wireless remote hand unit for I.O. and Conv. Control

Neutron: Small-Size

  • Designed for tiny 2/3-inch or 1/3-inch imager cameras sporting C-mount lenses such as the SI-2K Mini and the Iconix

All three Technica 3D systems can convert from parallel to beamsplitter and back depending on the application.

3D production has alwayweighed down with the heavy and complicated equipment required with specialized tools and dedicated crew to assemble and adjust, eating up precious production resources. That kept 3D practical for only an elite few.

But now, the innovative Technica 3D Series comes as a system that overpoweres these hurdles by providing smartly engineered 3D systems that are lighter weight and less costly which experts feels “brings 3D acquisition down to the simplicity of traditional 2D production”.

Besides, Element Technica has also developed a series of intuitive hardware/software tools to automate stereo calculation. These tools will be available as add-in modules for the core systems.

The Technica 3D systems begin shipping in the fall of 2009, with the first deliveries scheduled to go to Hollywood rental houses.

Element Technica is displaying all its product offerings at IBC 2009, Stand #11.A52.
