OmniBus Systems today announced that SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) has chosen OmniBus' Colossus as the automation system for its upgraded Johannesburg playout facility. SABC's Colossus system will provide transmission of the South African national broadcaster's three premium channels, SABC 1, 2 and 3, along with a spare channel for training.
Expected to go on air in 2009, the Colossus system will control Omneon servers at the broadcaster's upgraded facility and provide an enhanced, automated workflow with cache management and G3 desktops for flexible, component-based functionality.
"SABC is installing Colossus as part of our planned program of upgrades designed to future-proof our facility," said Manny Coelho, manager of Broadcast Facilities at SABC. "Colossus offers highly configurable workflows and a flexible user environment that will allow us to tailor our operations as requirements change and evolve."
OmniBus Colossus is the market-leading multi-channel automation system, providing a robust and scalable solution to broadcasters across the globe. A full-featured automated transmission product, Colossus incorporates schedule management, event building and transitions, timeline monitoring, live-event management and cache management. OmniBus G3 technology allows Colossus users to create task-specific interfaces for individual tasks and workflows, greatly simplifying training and on-air operation.
"The Colossus upgrade project builds on a successful 12-year relationship between SABC and OmniBus," said Jim Kirkland, OmniBus pre-sales manager. "The Colossus platform is well established, so it was a natural path for SABC to entrust their flagship channels to it." |
