Hi-tech durables to flood markets by March-April

Durables market in India is set to expand with companies like LG, Samsung, Haier and Videocon announcing new power efficient and eco-friendly products in this range. The Indian durables market which is worth more than Rs 20,000 crore will start selling these products by April this year.
While Samsung is planning to launch LCD-led live emitting diode (LED) TVs and Blu-ray based home theatre system, LG electronics has announced technological compressors in Air Conditioners (AC) with trendy designs.
Ravinder Zutshi, deputy managing director, Samsung India, has stated that 8-10% of the company’s turnover is being spent on Research and Development (R&D) for these new products. He also claimed that LED TV, which will hit the market by May, can cut down power consumption by 40% saving crucial amount of energy. Samsung is also planning to launch a new range of Camcorders with internal flash memory saving consumers costly memory cards. Both LG and Samsung have already presented their durable concept based devices at the CES tradeshow in USA.
Haier Appliances on the other hand is planning to import “dual-tech” refrigirators and ACs by the mid of 2009. Pranay Dhabhai, wholetime director at Haier Appliances told that the company had plans of importing these products from their production units in USA. A recent research report by Euro Monitor Statistics said that among consumer durables brands, globally, Haier is ranked number one in terms of market share. This indicates that the durables market in India will largely depend on Haier’s move to introduce new products.
Other companies who plan to join the durable market in near future are Videocon and Whirlpool. Videocon is targeting the export market with LCD and plasma TVs which will enhance power efficiency and enable eco-friendly TV viewing experience for users. |
