BSNL- Telecos standoff continues as TRAI's deadline ends today

With TRAI's deadline to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL) ending today, BSNL has not yet been able to restore the interconnection between its landline and private telecos.

Earlier, BSNL had locked out private operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular due to non-payment of bills. The non-restoration of operations since past three weeks had disrupted the connectivity between BSNL's land line phones and mobile phones of private operators within the regions of Punjab circle.

The Telecom Regulator Authority of India intervened in the matter and asked BSNL to start the services immediately. BSNL, in reply requested TRAI to withdraw the deadline stating that the agreement between BSNL and the private telecos, on nonpayment of carriage charges, validates its discontinuation of services.

Subscribers of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali continued to bear the impact of the standoff between BSNL and private service operators namely, Airtel, Idea and Vodafone.

Furthermore, services in Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra also remained adversely affected due to the ongoing standoff.
