Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has not yet restored the services offered to private telecom operators in the Punjab circle, even though the regulatory body TRAI had directed it to reconnect the services.
Due to non-restoration, the subscribers are unable to make calls from mobile phones to land line phones and vice-versa since past three weeks.
Despite the directions, BSNL had failed to restore the Points of Interconnection (PoI) till last evening, which disrupted connectivity between BSNL's land line phones and mobile phones of private operators within the state.
On September 29, the State PSU had disconnected its services to mobile operators including major players like Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices, Reliance Communication and Idea on account of pending dues amounting to Rs.13 crore.
Later, on October 3, BSNL Punjab circle restored its services to Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices Limited after telecom tribunal TDSAT stayed BSNL from disconnecting services of private operators.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday issued a directive to BSNL to immediately restore the connectivity services of private operators in the Punjab circle and send a compliance report by October 21. But, a senior official of BSNL said that there has been no official communication yet from the headquarter for restoring services to private operators.
However, BSNL has restored services to emergency service numbers including 100, 101, 102 and 108 in Punjab circle to allow mobile subscribers of private telecom operators to make SOS calls.
