The BlackBerry services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) were restored 20 hours after users in the area reported problems with BlackBerry Messenger and Email.
Research in Motion (RIM) said that it has now restored the services, interruptions to which first cropped up at about 1000 GMT (3.30 pm IST) on Monday. Large numbers of BlackBerry users across EMEA were cut off from the internet and messaging services due to the glitch. The phone companies in the affected regions also reported the interruption of services.
RIM said that some BlackBerry subscribers in the EMEA region experienced delays with BlackBerry services yesterday. They claimed that the issue was resolved and services are operating normally now. RIM also apologized to the customers for the inconvenience caused.
RIM has been losing its status as the corporate email service of choice to other smartphones led by Apple's iPhone and after a dismal set of quarterly results last month.
Vodafone UK customers across Britain were unable to access BlackBerry Messenger, a free-to-use instant messaging program which accounts for the popularity of the handset among youngsters. Across the affected regions, there were scattered instances were BlackBerry Internet was inaccessible.
The extent of outrage could be seen on Twitter where hundreds of users flooded the microblogging website, complaining disruptions in BlackBerry messenger and internet services.
Companies reporting the glitch included Qtel Qatar, Etisalat in the UAE, Dubai-based Du, Zain Kuwait and the Bahrain Telecommunications Co. |
