Govt to get rid of roaming charges across the country

The Government of India has announced that it plans to do away with roaming charges for all telecom operators. The govt further added that broadband speed will increase by up to nine times than the current speed in four years.
Also announced was a plan of providing all consumers with a voice on quality of services in case of disputes with operators.
The price of value-added services (VAS) like text messages might also be slashed.
The National Telecom Policy 2011 draft also focuses on the convergence of telecom, IT, broadcast and electronics to upgrade the quality of life and make it an instrument of empowerment.
Communications Minister Kapil Sibal, said that the National Telecom Policy-2011 aims at making telecommunication and broadband services across the country affordable, reliable and secure. |
