The ongoing tussle between Canadian maker firm of Blackberry, Research in Motion and government of India seems to have come to halt with the company agreeing on rendering access to all its services to the law enforcement agencies of India.
RIM has shown a reluctant consent for access to Blackberry services to be operationalized with an immediate affect. The company has made certain proposals for lawful access. However, the Home Ministry will reach any final conclusion in this matter after reviewing the feasibility of the solution provided by the company for 60 days.
These decisions were taken in a meeting concluded on Monday, chaired by the Union Home Secretary, Shri G.K.Pillai. Representatives of security agencies and Telecom Department attended the meeting.
The decision from Blackberry came just One day before the set deadline of 31st August by the government threatening of suspension of services in the country. Now, The Department of Telecom will review the feasibility of provided solution after studying the performance of a server situated in India itself.
Ministry of Home Affairs have made it clear that any communication through the telecom networks should be accessible to the law enforcement agencies and all telecom service providers including third parties have to comply with this. |
