As per the promise assured at the time of completion of 3G auction, the government is set to allot the spectrum (radio waves) to the successful winners of bid. Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot has confirmed the information regarding spectrum allocation.

In addition, subscribers will soon get rid of unsolicited calls and SMSs from Telemarketers. "After September 1, 2010, 3G spectrum allocations will take place and services will be rolled out thereafter," Pilot said.

Until yet, there were lot of speculations and rumors circulating among telecom sector players about timely allocations of 3G spectrums as defense establishment were not ready to release it until it gets an alternate spectrum. However, now the confirmation has come direct from the horse's mouth.

Notably, the government had fetched over Rs.67, 000 crore in a fiercely contested 3G spectrum auction. As many as seven operators, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Tele and RCom have bagged 3G spectrum.

On the issue of unwanted telemarketing calls and SMSs, Pilot said, "Telecom operators and service providers had been categorically asked to stop the increasing menace of sending unsolicited calls and SMS. Department of Telecommunications and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) have already held necessary consultations to put a complete ban to such calls."
