DoT release Notice Inviting Applications for 3G & BWA spectrum auction

As reported yesterday, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has finally released the Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for the much awaited auction of 3G and�BWA (Broadband Wireless Access)�spectrum.
As per the notice, the Government has decided to assign by auction three or four blocks of 5MHz of paired spectrum in the 2.1GHz band in each of the 22 service areas in case of the 3G spectrum.
In case of spectrum to be awarded in the BWA Auction, the Government shall auction two blocks of 20MHz unpaired spectrum in each of the 22 service areas.
These 22 circles also include the major metros Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai which will be receiving three private players as delivering 3G services. While, Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir will be having auction for four slots.
For the BWA spectrum, DoT has decided to auction two slots in all of the 22 circles. Mumbai and Delhi will be receiving only one private player post the auction.
Not more than one block of 3G Spectrum and one block of BWA Spectrum shall be allocated to any single Bidder in a service area, says the NIA released by DoT.
Government of India is expected to garner over Rs 30000 crore of revenues which will eventually help to reduce the fiscal deficit of the nation. All the successful bidders would be allowed to offer 3G services on commercial basis from September 1, 2010, mentioned the NIA. |
