TRAI's recommendations in favor of Mobile Television got approval

Most of the recommendations in favor of Mobile Television Services that were submitted last week by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India have been approved by I&B ministry. Government has accepted TRAI’s opinion on increasing Investment Limit up to 74% in Mobile Television Services. Also the authority’s advice regarding broadcasting of only authorized news channels by License holders has been accepted by the Government.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ms. Ambika Soni had recently indicated that the government is imparting sincere consideration on escalating Mobile Television Technology in the country. Apart from approving 74% FDI share in Mobile TV services, Ministry has also accepted that the service provider must have the option of choosing the technology for its operations. According to the suggestion provided by TRAI, Technology must go Digital and should be utilized for global consumers. Along with it, the technology must be at par with the regulations of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Telecom Engineering Centre of India (TEC). TRAI has also proposed that the License holder of Mobile TV services will only broadcast those news channels which would be approved by Information & Broadcasting Ministry.
Recommendation of I&B Ministry consulting on Spectrum capacity and availability with Department of Space along with Department of Telecom has not only been accepted but also agreed to take the matter with WPC/DoT.
Whereas, recommendation regarding the allocation of license to operators for Mobile TV services through a closed Tender System is also agreeable to the Government. |
