Nokia and HCL tie up to provide VAS, mobile entertainment

Nokia has announced that it has formed a joint venture with HCL Infosystems and will sell Value Added Services (VAS) and entertainment content to consumers in India directly.
In the statement it released, it said that the venture would primarily focus on selling VAS for mobile devices. Nokia India Vice President and Managing Director D. ShivaKumar said that VAS distributions and the easy availability of entertainment services are important parts of their future strategies.
Nokia has already made impressive inroads in the VAS sector with its internet based service Ovi. Ovi has specialised offerings of music, games, navigation tools, and livelihood tool Nokia Life which is targeted at rural and semi-urban population.
HCL Infosystems, which is distributes Nokia's products through its retail chains, did not have a good third quarter result, though. It registered a fall of 32% on PAT (profit after tax) figures as compared to last year. |
