The Government has approved the National E-Governance Plan May 2006 under which e-Infrastructure of State Wide Area Network (SWAN), State Data Centre (SDC), Common Service Centre (CSC), State Portal and 27 Mission Mode Projects are being implemented. This information was given by the Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, Shri Sachin Pilot in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha yesterday.

During the last 2 years Department of Information Technology has supported e-infrastructure Projects, however Mission Mode Projects are implemented by concerned Ministries/Departments and provisioning of funds is also made by them for the same.

National E-Governance Plan (NeGP) presently covers 27 Mission Mode Projects. The NeGP is a centralised initiative with a decentralized implementation model. The States have been given flexibility to identify additional State specific projects (not exceeding five) which are relevant for the economic development of the State. Apart from the Mission Mode Projects under NeGP, various Ministries and Departments are also undertaking e-Governance projects as per the actual needs and requirements.
