Net4 India, leading Network and Applications service provider, has come up with ICANN approved New GTLDs. ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the governing body for internet domain names, has voted to proceed with its new Top Level Domain Program. This program will open up the domain name system beyond the current 22 generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) to just about anything.
The current GTLD suffixes, including the ubiquitous .com, .net and .org, could be supplemented by hundreds more, being virtually any word in any language to any geographic names, community names et all that are generating interest. The prospect of using the new domain name system will help facilitate the users with higher visibility for their brands and better implementation of security.
One of ICANN's key commitments is to promote competition in the domain name market while ensuring Internet security and stability. New generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) help achieve that commitment. Soon entrepreneurs, businesses, governments and communities around the world will be able to apply to operate a Top-Level Domain of their own choosing. Therefore, New GTLDs are expected to introduce innovation, choice and competition to Internet services.
The impetus is to create more variety and more meaningful domain structures with the recently approved creation of generic top-level domain (TLDs) for brands and organizations. The current domain structure is limited to the standardized domain extensions like .com, .net, .edu etc and national domain extensions like .us, .uk etc. This New structure will allow for a larger variety domain name options, while also whereas. Google vs. apple is immediately recognizable and meaningful.
