Keeping itself in pace with the ongoing trend of digitization, a prominent American daily, USA Today has adopted the strategy of emphasizing more on its digital arm rather than on just the print vertical. The paper will now focus on all platforms web, mobile, iPad and other digital formats.
In its new organizational revamping, the paper has decided on zeroing in on digital content shifting its major focus from the print.
USA Today is also not an exception and has suffered a loss of 2 lakhs readers in last year. The newspaper’s growth has declined marginally by 14% in this quarter of the current fiscal along with the dip of 29% in terms of advertising revenue. USA Today had an average paid circulation of 1.83 million in the six months till March last.
Another aspect of this newly adopted strategy is the trimming down of employee strength from the newspaper. The newspaper currently has 1500 employees and it is speculated that the move will compel approximately 130 employees to loose their jobs.
With the expansion of popularity of virtual world, people worldwide (prominently in Europe, US and developed countries) are finding it more suitable to rely on internet for their requirement of news, information and entertainment. Thus, the circulation figures of all major newspapers, publications have declined rapidly. |
