Facebook tops social networking chart; beats Orkut

Facebook has flattened its arch rival Google owned Orkut on the subscriber front with 20.9 million visitors in the month of July in the country. The fact has been revealed in recent study conducted by online audience research firm comScore.
According to the report, the traffic to Facebook increased 179 per cent in July compared to the year ago period at 20.9 million visitors; Orkut registered a mere 16 per cent growth to 19.9 million visitors.
According to comScore, more than 33 million Internet users (aged 15 and older) in India visited social networking sites in July. This makes India the seventh largest market worldwide for social networking after the US, China, Germany, Russia, Brazil and the UK.
While other Social networking platforms such as BharatStudent (4.4mn), Twitter (3.3mn) and professional network Linkedin registered their presence in top 10 players in social networking marketing.
Along with this, Orkut has made some significant changes in its appearance and features to compete with its rapidly emerging competitor Facebook. |
