Google fixes Like.com deal

Search engine giant Google has completed the acquisition process of like.com a visual search company. The total cost of deal has been estimated at $100 million. Like.com is engaged in facilitating users with provisions of searching for a desired thing with the help of images.
This is the second attempt of Google for the possession of visual search technology. Prior to this it has failed in acquiring Riya.com, a similar service providing company in the year 2005. Like.com uses core technology that was developed by Riya, which was focused on facial recognition.
Like.com the prominent player of visual search domain is a US based company which was founded by Munjal Shah and Burak Gokturk in August 2004.
Like.com CEO and co-founder Munjal Shah announced the deal on his company's home page on Friday. "We see joining Google as a way to supersize our vision and supercharge our passion," his note reads.
"We've developed technology that lets us understand visually what terms like 'red high-heeled pumps' and 'floral patterned sleeveless dress' mean and created algorithms to understand whether those pumps complement or clash with that dress," reads a company description. |
