As the online world is growing popular, Disney explores the new medium to reach to its all time favourite audience – the children. The Walt Disney Co. has launched an online website that would be provides the kids around the globe to delve into interactive reading experience online.

The Disney Digital Books (www.disneydigitalbooks.com), an initiative by Walt Disney’s Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) arm, has launched a collection of around 500 books that comes of interest to children of all ages, having different reading levels to select from a wide range of choice.

The Walt Disney Co. describe this initiative, as “a new, cutting-edge way for children to experience the joy of reading in a robust and safe interactive environment” in its statement.

The collection of the books being made available include various popular Disney franchises such as Mickey Mouse, Toy Story, Disney Princess, Cars, and Hannah Montana, along with many other classic Disney stories.

To make this reading experience more of learning, Disney has included host of features to the website. Children can look and listen the titles that allow them to hear the story read aloud. It includes a "Story-Builder" feature where kids can create and share their own memorable stories. Besides, the website also provides with an age-appropriate dictionary that lets children click on any word to hear it read aloud, select unfamiliar words, and read simple definitions. Disney has also taken the endeavour to provide the kids with reading certificates to encourage budding readers.

The books can only be read through the Disney website and are not transferable to electronic readers such as Amazon's Kindle or Sony’s e-Reader.

Disney is providing its Digital Books for an annual subscription of $79.95 or a monthly subscription of $8.95. With the course of time it plans to add new books and features, including some exclusives to Disney Digital Books subscribers, will be added on an ongoing basis.
