The FM Phase III expansion will cover most of the areas of South India, as predicted by speakers of the session 'The New Listener in Phase III Radio Reforms' at the third edition of the Ficci Media and Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC 2011).
Elaborating further, Ficci Radio Forum chairman and ENIL MD and CEO Prashant Panday, said that, 63 new stations will be on roll in the four states in the South -TamilNadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
He further added that, South is going to be a major part of the action as it holds a very intensive consumer of radio with a listenership of 40 million of the almost 120 million radio listeners in the country.
The project of Phase III will also introduce multiple frequencies, enabling a broadcaster from a particular city, to operate further in multiple stations and run differentiated programming.
Pandey praised the proposal put forward by TRAI, to double the number of channels which can come in one single step, which is to reduce the separation between the radio stations to half of what is there currently.
