Where Hindustan, the Hindi arm of HT (Hindustan Times) is engaged in launching new editions and expanding its wings in new regions, its not so old Kolkata edition has been shut.

Reports are that the publication of edition has been closed because of reasons like declining readership and internal politics in Kolkata office. However, the management is also considering the re-launching of newspaper.

The publication of Kolkata edition of Hindustan is closed since 1st September. On the other hand, the question of employment has risen in front of workers of this edition. The newspaper could not sustain itself even for the six months properly after its launching on 10th February.

The newspaper at the time of launch enjoyed a readership of 5000 but it declined to a meager 1800 by 30th August.
