Being tainted by the BJP’s allegations over the issue of having favored coverage in newspapers during elections, Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan put his reservations before the two member inquiry panel set by the Press Council of India to reveal truth behind the ‘Paid News’ matter.
The meeting of PCI committee members with the CM was scheduled after the notice issued to him by Election Commission, which came after allegations sticked on him for paying illicit amounts to gain publicity in the Assembly Polls.
According to the reports from PTI, senior journalist Pranjoy Guha Thakurta met Chavan at his official residence ‘Varsha’ yesterday and recorded his statement regarding the issue. Whereas, clarifying his stand on the matter, Chavan denied his involvement in buying the news space for the positive publicity in favor of his candidature in the election and stated that only an amount of Rs.11000 was spent by him on advertisements during the election campaigns. |
