According to a report at the French daily newspaper website Le Monde, the French News sites are likely to follow The New York Times and will soon be launching paywalls.

Print publications globally have suffered a setback in their revenues during the past year facing the brunt of recession and falling advertising revenues. Eventually some of them shut down their operations, cut on their staff and at the same time looked up to charge for the content offered online to have an alternative source of revenue.

As per the report at Le Monde, news magazine L’Express is currently devising a pay-model and intends to introduce it in later in year 2010. Also, joining the list could be Le Figaro, who earlier hinted to introduce "premium" paywall option in January but haven’t implemented any yet. . It may launch the feature in February, Le Monde added.

While, Le Monde currently provides certain pay-for features on its site. The New York Times had announced recently to introduce its metered pay model in 2011.
