The Film Federation of India (FFI) has decided to go on strike in protest against the government's proposal to keep the industry under service tax purview.
FFI President, Vinod Lamba, said that the strike against the proposal is necessary as the film industry is already in deep trouble because of various taxes.
Lamba also added that the imposition of service tax will further increase the burden on the film industry.
Various film makers and personalities including Madhur Bhandarkar, Pritish Nandy, and Mahesh Bhatt have come forward and supported Lamba's view and the blackout.
Lamba also said that the federation would be forced to shut down the entire Indian film industry if the taxes were levied as it would lead to more losses.
