The Press Club of India on Sunday has formally announced that veteran journalist T.R. Ramachandran of G-Files has been re-elected president and Anil Anand of Greater Kashmir is the new secretary general.
Ramachandran managed 757 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Nirnimesh Kumar of The Hindu, who got 227 votes. Anil Anand won confidence of 664 voters in comparison to Pankaj Singh, former Producer with The BBC, who only got 245 votes. The outgoing Secretary General, Sandip Dikshit did not contest the elections this time.
Among the other office bearers, Nadeem Ahmed Kazmi of NDTV India was re-elected treasurer, ArunKesri of Univarta is vice president and Mohua Chatterjee of The Times of India is joint secretary.
The new managing committee of 16 members comprises: Aditi Tandon (Tribune), Anant Bagaitkar (Sakal), Avtar Negi (DD News), Dinesh Tewari (Hindustan), G.N. Jha (Asian Age), Jitendra Kumar (CVB News Service), Jomy Thomas (Malayalam Manorama), Kamalnain Narang (Business Line), Manan Kumar (DNA), Parul Chandra (Asian Age), Sanjay Singh (Rashtriya Sahara), Sanjeev Upadhyaya (Doordarshan), Santosh Kumar (Dainik Bhaskar), Souvagya K. Kar (All India Radio), Sudhi Ranjan Sen (NDTV) and Karuna Madan (Xinhua).
The eye catching development of this year’s elections was that the outgoing team which fought the elections on the plank of cleaning up the financial mess of the club, made a clean sweep, bagging all the five posts of office bearers with huge margins. It also won 15 out of the 16 posts of the Executive Committee.
