The Election Commission(EC) has served show cause notices to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal and a Punjab- based news channel for airing ads on the SAD led government’s achievements without the mandatory permission.

The report filed to chief electoral officer suggests that the channel had aired such content and showed Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Commenting the act as illegal, Raj Kumar Tangri, assistant chief electoral officer, Punjab, said the commercials were aired without taking mandatory permission from the EC. 

A separate notice has been issued to the channel management which aired the ads without checking the fact whether SAD had taken a permission of EC or not.
