CNN parts ways with Associated Press

In a recent announcement, CNN, citing the offered terms unfit for its business model has put a full stop to its contract with Associated Press. The announcement came on Monday from Nigel Pritchard (Spokesman, CNN).

On the other hand, AP expressing disappointment on the break up has said in a statement that it "it is unfortunate that CNN's viewers will no longer have access to the breaking news and worldwide reporting resources of The Associated Press."

Reports are that CNN, will however now is all set to focus on facilitating its customers with its own and exclusive content. Also, it is looking to use inputs from another big news player Reuters for the supplementation of its news content. CNN like other news content providers is trying to decrease dependency on a news agency like AP and will produce its original programmes and content.

Prior to this, AP has been dropped by some players of the news industry because of its high prices on content delivery. One of AP's over-seas competitors, Agence France-Presse, has also faced similar problems in recent years: in June 2009, the French regional paper La Provence dropped the AFP.
