Fair probe of 2G spectrum scam: CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation has assured country of conducting a fair probe of the accusations related to the allotment of 2G spectrum. Telecom minister A. Raja is facing allegations from media and opposition for his suspicious role in the matter.

CBI Director, Ashwini Kumar said to the media persons on Saturday in Chennai that "CBI has registered a case in this respect. The probe is on and I assure you that the issue will be investigated in a complete fair, unbiased and authentic manner."

He said, "A lot has been said in media and public platforms on this matter. Our probe is legal and will follow the legal path without getting prejudiced by the thoughts of any person or media fraternity."

Answering a question, CBI chief said that the agency keeps any issue limited to the accusations claimed in the FIR only. If any new revelations come in our way then we can launch a fresh FIR.

CBI Chief completely denied the allegations of political interference in the working pattern of investigative agency. Kumar said, "There is no question of that." Without taking any name he said that the Supreme Court has handed over several cases to the CBI, which shows the apex court's trust on the agency.

He said with emphasis that CBI is not a political entity. Citing an example of a statement given by former Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the parliament he said that neither the agency can be diverted nor it can be compelled to deliver a pre decided result. Thus, people should rest assured about the probe in this matter.
