News Media Coalition (NMC), the global media body, has urged the Indian Premier League (IPL)authorities to rework on the coverage guidelines for the approaching season of the Twenty20 league.
The international body has marked out that the guidelines issued by the IPL authorities for the coverage of the third season of the Twenty20 league matches are harsh on the freedom of the press.
"The terms on offer from the IPL raise serious issues of press freedom, including the ability to inform the public with topical information and the legitimate distribution of news content for editorial publications," said NMC in a statement released by it.
For this purpose NMC has asked IPL authorities to find a feasible solution for the concerns raised by the media entities to cover the Twenty20 games.
The third season of the IPL is scheduled to begin from March 12, 2010. Before the NMC, India’s News broadcasters Association (body representing the interests of news broadcasters in sub-continent) and Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) have also decided not to air any content in regard to the IPL because of the stringent media guidelines issued by the IPL Authority.
The News Media Coalition (NMC) is a group of international news agencies and publications that is focused on preserving freedom of the press. It consists of over fifty news organizations, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), Associated Press (AP), European Newspaper Publishers Association (ENPA), Reuters, World Association of Newspapers (WAN). |
