Ved Vrat Giri passes away

Aligarh/Delhi: Ved Vrat Giri, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of MyNews.in and Merikhabar.com, died in a road accident in Aligarh(U.P) on Saturday. Giri was on a social visit when the unfortunate accident took place. He leaves behind his wife and a son and daughter.
Giri had over 15 years of varied and rich experience in journalism. He had worked at MediaGuru Consultants as Editor-in-Chief –Web operations recently and as such helped shape and add value to www.mediamughals.com.
To his credit, Giri was a keen observer of the growth and power of the web world and understood the huge influence and need of 'free knowledge' and its inevitability in the wireless world. That is why he initiated in India, the concept of Citizen Journalists, for sharing the reporting of news from every nook and corner. Thus were born www.mynews.in and www.merikhabar.com two portals with over a hundred thousand registered users and contributors, making the two portals among the top 100 news sites from India.
Giri had stared his career with Dainik Jagran and moved on to work with Amar Ujala for the next three years. He later joined Rashtriya Sahara English Magazine as the State Correspondent for Madhya Pradesh and Prabhat Kiran, the Indore-based Hindi eveninger as the News Editor.
Through his next move he entered the television domain and joined ETC News. In 2001 he came back to the print media and worked with Dainik Bhaskar for 7 years before turning and entrepreneur and starting his own websites.
Giri was a simple man with sparse needs who was married to his work and ethics.
