ASCI upholds complaints against 17 ads for various counts

The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci) has upheld complaints made against 17 advertisements which included the Education, Health, FMCG and restricted products sectors during July and August 2011.
The CCC also did not uphold any complaints against eight advertisements during the same time.
The companies' advertisements against which the complaints were upheld were Maruti Suzuki - Estilo Magic, "Bata India - Think Weinbrenner, Think Outdoors", Hindustan Unilever - Pureit Water Purifier, Triply Stainless Steel Cookware from Glen Appliances, T.I.M.E. - CAT' 11/12, Career Launcher (I) Ltd, Team Satyam, Greenply Industries' Greenlam Laminates, Indulekha Gold Hair Care Oil, Hindustan Unilever-Dove Damage Therapy, New Ariel Oxyblu, Lavanya Ayurvedic Hospital & Research Center for its ad "Cancer can be treated without radiation or chemotherapy, Royal Stag - Mega Cricket, McDowell's No.1 Platinum Soda, Ford Figo for its ad "Ford Figo leaves its competition far behind", Chevrolet Beat Diesel and Titan Industries- Fast Track Watches.
The complaints against these companies’ advertisements were upheld for different reasons like misleading the audience, material that offended women, religious sentiments and others.
Companies against which the CCC did not uphold the complaints included Samsung ACs, Royal Hygiene Care Pvt Ltd's She Comfort, Hindustan Unilever's Pureit Marvella eWater Purifier, IMS Learning Resources Pvt Ltd, Hardcastle Restaurant's McDonald's, L'Oreal India's Garneir Fructis, Hindustan Unilver's Clinic All Clear and Tata Indicom as their advertisements did not contravene ASCI's codes or guidelines.
