Ambika Soni urges ASCI to speed up reviewing process

Minister of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Smt Ambika Soni, urged the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) to speed up the processes of reviewing consumer complaints on misleading advertisements.
Speaking at a conference organized by ASCI, Ambika Soni said that advertising helps in the growth of consumer demand and industries. She also urged ASCI to increase its membership so as to succeed. She further added that self regulation is not a mantra that is to be forgotten but an effort that grows and evolves for the citizens.
Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister of State, Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution who was also present in the conference said that the government is considering the creation of an inter-ministerial committee to look into the issue of misleading and false advertisements.
Mr I Venkat, Chairman, ASCI said that ASCI has already increased the frequency of the Consumer Complaints Council’s meetings to twice a month since November. He also added that the Fast track service announced recently has received a positive response from citizens.
