India's tally count reaches 16 at Cannes 2010

The subcontinent’s tally count reached 16 medals with the end of foruth day of the ongoing Advertising extravaganza at Palais, Cannes. The number of metals doubled from 8 to 16 with the announcement of the winners for the Design and Press Lions.
PRESS LIONS India has won 6 Press Lions with two each, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Winning its first Lion ever at the Cannes Festival, the year-old agency Taproot bagged Gold Lion for its campaign for Transasia Papers’ Conquerors Papers. The compositions of the campaign included Spiritual Guru, Royal Rajput and Kathakali Dancer. The unique artwork of Kathkali Dancer has also brought Taproot a Silver Lion in the awards given out in the Press Category. The campaign was part of Conquerors Papers ten years of existence with the idea of ‘Colours of India’.
The other agency striking a Gold Lion in the Press category is RMG Gurgaon. The agency received accolades for its Fujifilm’s F 70 Camera campaign titled Funeral, Airport and Poker.
Other making to the winners list in the Press Lions category include Leo Burnett (Mumbai) with Silver Lion for its Tide Dirt Magnet Campaign and Bates 141 and Mudra DDB each getting a Bronze Lion for their work for Virgin Mobile and Bangalore Traffic Police respectively.

The Grand Prix in the category has been awarded to AlmapBBDO Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the Billboard Magazine campaign ‘Bono’, ‘Eminem’, ‘Amy’, ‘Britney’, ‘Marilyn’.
Considered to be one of the most prestigious awards at Cannes, in total one Grand Prix, 10 Gold Lions, 21 Silver and 39 Bronze were announced in the Press Lions.
DESIGN LIONS Out of the seven entries shortlist in the Design Lions category, India was able to convert two into metals.
Publicis Communications bagged a Gold Lion in the category for its campaign for Publicis Communications. The agency got nominated in Posters category with its work titled Beer, Mountain and Sky.
The other winner from India in the category was Ogilvy & Mather India winning a Bronze Lion for its campaign ‘Stamp’ created for Department of Posts (India). O&M was shortlist in Calendars category.
The Grand Prix in the category has been awarded to Happiness Brussels (Belgium) for its work Toyota’s IQ titled ‘IQ Font”. |
