Al Jazeera to launch new portal for citizen reporting

   Print    Email

Al Jazeera has announced that it will launch a multi lingual citizen media sharing service called Sharek later this year.

The new portal will enable people to contribute videos to help in reporting news from the streets. The broadcaster claims to have received over 70,000 videos on its current portal following the Arab uprisings.

The broadcaster said that the videos sent will be checked properly to distinguish reliable and regular content contributors. Once users reach a 'trust score threshold', their videos will be available for viewing before moderation.

Moeed Ahmad, Head of New Media, Al Jazeera said that visitors to Sharek will be able to watch footage that doesn't necessarily make it onto Al Jazeera's screens.
