Major awareness campaign for Digitization: Uday Varma, Sec MIB

Mr. Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, conversing exclusively with team MediaMughals.com at the ongoing BES Expo 2012 stated that the Ministry plans to raise the FDI limit for few of the broadcasting sectors in a bid to meet the challenges of incurring huge investments for the digitalization.

The Ministry has planned to raise FDI limit to 74% for cable sector to enable it to complete the digitalization.

He was quite confident of the Government's approach towards the step and signed off stating that it will easily achieve the deadline of the completion of the First Phase of the digitization.

Talking about raising awareness amongst the masses regarding the digitization drive and Set-Top-Boxes(STBs), Secretary MIB remarked "The Government will soon roll out comprehensive educational campaigns for the same soon. Mr. Varma added that further initiatives are being taken to ensure that people of remote areas be informed well about the drive."

Elaborating further he remarked that, the govt. has launched television spots, radio jingles and corporate advertisements for the successful campaigning of the digitization process.

Mr. Varma maintained that in the First Phase of the digitization, Metropolitan areas will be covered as the people are quite well aware of the drive and the instrument called STBs.
