Gujarat Telelink Private Ltd. (GTPL) has announced that it is rolling out high definition (HD) digital cable set top boxes from Cisco in Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA).

It will alter the current scenario and bring revolution in the area of consumer entertainment and enable consumers to enjoy superior HD TV experience along with other services such as DVR (digital video recording), HD gaming, VoD (Video on demand) and future Connected Home services to consumers.

This announcement was made on the sidelines of Cable TV Show 2012, SAARC region’s largest cable TV show, at Nehru Indoor stadium, Kolkata.

GTPL, a leading Multi Service Operator (MSO) in India has recently acquired KCBPL, a leading provider of cable service in West Bengal and is focused on digitization of cable networks in the region.

GTPL and Cisco will jointly work to venture in cable digitization across the key states of Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam and Jharkhand to deploy more than 8,00,000 next-generation digital set-top boxes, both HD and SD, over the next 12 months in these markets.

GTPL is one of the pioneers of HD TV deployment. With several broadcasters looking at launching HD channels, introduction of HD Cable TV will provide a competitive advantage to GTPL vis-à-vis other cable operators as well as DTH providers.

Mr. Anirudh Sinh Jadeja, Managing Director, GTPL: “We see tremendous potential in the eastern region. GTPL-KCBPL has been a very successful joint venture and we have attained a leadership position in Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) in a short timeframe.

We are proud to be one of the first players to rollout digitalization in KMA, in line with the digitization drive by Government of India. And we believe, that with digitization, our partners and viewers stand to benefit from more opportunities, products and value."

Mr. Sandeep Arora, vice president, Service Provider, Cisco India & SAARC,"Our engagement with GTPL has the potential to transform cable industry in India.
