Pakistan blocks 30 Indian channels

According to an official of Pakistan Cable Operators Federation, The transmission of 30 channels has been terminated after the orders of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority. All the independent cable operators have stopped the transmission after receiving orders from the regulatory body.
The channels under this ban include general entertainment channels such as Star Plus, Sony, Set Max, Star Gold, Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Star Movies etc. Along with these, international channels like ESPN, Star Sports, Super Sports, CNN, BBC and Al-Jazeera are also facing ban in Pakistan.
The Nayatal Cable Network in a written message issued to its subscribers has stated that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended the telecast of some channels.
Malik Mushtaq (President, PEMRA) said that the decision of suspending these channels' transmission is the outcome of an order of the honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan.
In the reports emerged in media it has been said that on the recommendation of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (dated 25th August 2010), Supreme Court ordered regarding banning of Indian channels.
Also, banning the popular Indian films on the occasion of Eid has frustrated film distributors and film producers. They have affirmed that these sorts of conservative provisions will not promote development of domestic cinema. |
