A new news channel, NEWS17 is all set to launch sometime later this year. Rajesh Sharma, Vice President with Total TV, who left organization recently, has planned to launch NEWS17 National News Channel with Sangeet audio company promoted by Mr. Amit Vaid and Mr Balkishan Rathi. News 17 will be joint venture of Network 17 Media (P) Ltd promoted by Rajesh Sharma and Sangeet Audio Ltd.

The license of News17 is already under process with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and is expected to be with the proprietors soon. Infrastructure and recruitment process for News17 will also be starting very soon. Rajesh Sharma said it NEWS17 will be the news channel with difference where viewers will get complete package of news and infotainment in a totally new avatar.

Amit Vaid said that keeping in mind that the youngsters, at present stay away from hard news channels, the aim of NEWS17 is to break this trend. He said that the aim of the channel is to target youth and so it will be the channel for 'youngistan'.

The channel has roped in Vivek Avasthi as its Editorial and Content Head. Vivek Avasthi has been in print and electronic media for over 19 years. He has earlier worked with Aaj Tak, Zee News, Star News, Dilli Aaj Tak and IBN7 apart from other media organizations.
