Fashion Television has been prohibited by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for the second time in its history for the violation of several rules of Cable Television Network Rules 1994. The government has banned the transmission/re-transmission of the channel for 10 days from last Friday evening till 21st of March 2010.
The transmission will be banned on Cable TV Networks and on all platforms across the country. The government has taken the step regarding showing women with nude upper body during a show fashion designer Alexander McQueen in Barcelona (2001). Fashion TV aired this show on 4th September 2009. Ministry felt that the programme offended against good taste and was derogated women’s decency and image. The visuals were found to be obscene, denigrating women and were not suitable for children and unrestricted public exhibition.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has observed that FTV Channel has violated Rule-6 (1) (a), (d), (k), (o) & 6(5) of Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 and therefore, the Ministry, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section-20 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, as amended from time to time, has taken this action.
Earlier also, the FTV has faced ban in the year 2007 because of its programmes ‘Midnight Hot’ in which vulgar content defaming women’s dignity was shown. |
