Sky TV New Zealand emerges as the first “All Digital” TV broadcaster in New Zealand as it shut off its analogue UHF pay TV network on march 10, 2010.
The broadcaster has been encouraging its subscribers across New Zealand to transit from analogue to digital satellite services. This was done by means of an array campaigns undertaken by Sky TV New Zealand through which it has been successful in encouraging the more than 25,000 to shift to its digital services.
In a statement released by the Company, Martin Wrigley, SKY Director of Operations said, “SKY’s analogue UHF service has been in operation since SKY launched in 1990 - a number of the UHF transmitters are almost 20 years of age and nearing the end of their life expectancy”.
“We decided to close down the analogue UHF network, which will result in SKY becoming an ‘all-digital’ broadcaster” said Mr Wrigley.
The digital-satellite platform was initiated by Sky in December 1998. Today, the platform has been deployed by around 47% of New Zealand homes for receiving their television services. |
