Is this the time for a make over of National Broadcaster? Or the requirement of imparting it a newer workforce with innovative ideas has become a must? These questions are crawling in every Indian viewer’s mind, which has grown up watching DD programmes. Once again the need of answering these questions has aroused as after the failure of first tender inviting global distributors of DD, a similar kind of second one has also been turned down by the takers.
Depriving the Diaspora of around 30 million Indians residing in regions like US, Canada, UK, Australia, SouthEast Asia and West Asia, no takers have showed interest in buying distribution rights of National Broadcaster Doordarshan and other related Regional channels. This is also being seen as an estimated loss of Rs.35 Crore from five years right for the Prasar Bharati which largely depends on Government aids for the operations of channels. The disinterest showed by global buyers is also not apt from the point of view of revenues as Board’s revenues have registered a steep dip in last 5 years.
But despite two failures on this failure, Prasar Bharati is still hopeful of making big revenues from the distribution of rights and is all set to release third tender in near future, sources said. |
